Nearly four years ago now, a remake of the iconic Dragon Quest III using the HD-2D style was announced for the first time. It would take until last year to hear anything more about it, when finally it was revealed when the game would arrive. Little did anyone know though, there was more in store than just a simple release date, as they also announced Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D at the same time, to be released later. It’s been a few months now since the release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D, and now is the perfect time for a new look at the next two entries in the trilogy via today’s Nintendo Direct.
Kicking off the Direct came the very first gameplay footage of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D. Although short, it became clear to see that these games will be using the exact same style as Dragon Quest III HD-2D, with the same overworld, sprites, and amazing visual flare surrounding the many spells in the game. This makes complete sense, seeing as these three make up what is known as the Erdrick trilogy. Dragon Quest I and II follow directly after the events of Dragon Quest III, so now is a good time to finish up its HD-2D remake before this new release hits the shelves.
When will Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D release?
When that will be exactly is not yet known, however. There was no release date mentioned in the trailer, merely the same 2025 release window revealed in the original trailer last year. While it would be nice to know when it’s coming, knowing that it will be here by the end of the year is exciting nonetheless. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news on Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D in the coming future as its release marches ever closer!
