It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours since the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and owners have begun to dig through the code of the remaster. As spotted by various outlets, a modder by the name of Masagratordev posted on Twitter that they discovered a hidden 60 fps mode for the remaster that is currently not functional on the Switch. While more tech-savvy players can “enable” the feature, it doesn’t work properly as the code is seemingly incomplete.
About Xenoblade Chronicles X:
– Dynamic resolution ranges: 504p-720p handheld, 760p-1080p docked
– Game's executable has hidden 60 FPS mode. It seems to be implemented only partially since enabling it causes weird issues. As a proof screen from function that sets UI speed, 1.0.1 pic.twitter.com/Ag09YVQ7g1— MasaGratoR (@masagratordev) March 20, 2025
Now right off the bat, the general assumption online is that this 60 fps mode is some form of future-proofing for the Switch 2. With the console just two weeks away from being fully unveiled and potentially only a couple of months from hitting store shelves, developer Monolith Soft may have partially implemented the performance mode for Nintendo’s next device. I’m more of the mind that this 60 fps code is there as some form of debugging used when porting the game, but either answer is plausible. It very well could be that the code is there so that when Switch 2 comes out, a quick patch could enable it for owners of the device.
As far as the technical performance of this remaster goes, it seems to be a mostly stable 30 fps with solid resolution numbers based on whether or not you’re playing portably or docked. In direct comparison to its Wii U counterpart, XCX Definitive Edition should run smoother and generally look sharper overall. I suppose that 60 fps mode would make the game feel better, but we’ll just have to wait and see if anything comes of it.
