The ESRB has officially rated Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the upcoming game in the Legends series. Legends: Z-A has been given a rating of E10+, marking the first time a Pokémon mainline game has received a rating higher than E.

What’s interesting is that the only games in the Pokémon series to get an E10+ rating are the Pokémon Rumble games: Rumble, Rumble Blast and Rumble World, all for Mild Cartoon Violence, while Legends: Z-A is for Fantasy Violence. Legends: Arceus received an E rating and it has a similar battle style to Z-A, so that’s not the reason for the higher rating.

Why is Pokémon Legends: Z-A rated E10+?

Fans speculate that the story could be a bit darker for Z-A, which makes sense when you think back to XY’s story which involved Lysandre trying to kill everybody, or AZ’s Floette dying in battle, which resulted in AZ going crazy and killing a bunch of people in a heartbroken rage.

We’ll find out the reason for the rating later this year, when Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases on all Nintendo Switch systems!
