Fans of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series have had a rough go of things over the years. Between the oversaturation of the brand mixed with diminishing returns and fairly shoddy games, it almost felt as if the franchise was something that could have only existed at the turn of the century. Then came the excellent Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake in 2020 and then… nothing. Activision Blizzard dissolved the team into other projects and things felt bleak again. Now, though, the tides have seemingly turned.

After pro skater Tyshawn Jones teased that he would be included in a new Tony Hawk game soon, the latest update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has added some fuel to the fire. As spotted by eagle-eyed players, Black Ops 6’s season has introduced a classic map called “Grind.” Situated in a skate park, there is a particular area that houses a sign that shows the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater logo and reads, “03.04.25.” If that isn’t the date of an upcoming announcement, I’m not sure what else it could be.

While the announcement doesn’t necessarily point to THPS 3 and 4 getting remakes and could be an entirely new installment, an update to those classic games has been talked about in the years since the previous remake. Tony Hawk himself claimed that plans were in place to recreate the iconic PS2 titles before Activision Blizzard made some awful choices. The sale of the company to Microsoft didn’t help matters, either, and nothing has been heard about the brand since.

For the moment, it seems that whatever this announcement is will be limited to current-generation platforms and PC. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 did eventually receive a Nintendo Switch port and while 3+4 might not run on the current console, it could be primed as a Switch 2 launch game.
