With basically no fanfare at all, developer QUByte has unleashed Glover upon the Nintendo eShop with a scheduled February 27th, 2025, release date. Going for $19.99, you surprisingly cannot pre-order the game ahead of its release. That means no special bonuses or anything, though I can’t imagine what extra goodies would be available for a port of a 27 year-old game.
What is concerning is that no demo is available for Glover on either Nintendo Switch or PS4. The PC release of Glover, which was developed by Piko Interactive, was released in 2022 and has been widely panned for how inaccurate and buggy it is. It would be a shame for this belated console conversion to suffer the same fate, though we have no way of knowing ahead of its launch.
Glover’s history
Glover was originally released on the N64 back in 1998 and has developed a cult following in the years since. While its PS1 port is generally considered to be the better version, most people associate the game with Nintendo’s 64-bit platform since it launched there first. There was something charming about a sentient glove that bounced balls to navigate environments and that appeal hasn’t died off in the years since.
After a cancelled sequel was eventually leaked online in 2011, it seems Glover was shot back into the limelight of public consciousness. That leaked prototype is what eventually led to the creation of these ports, though the PC version is still not in an acceptable state nearly three years later. Here’s hoping QUByte has seriously reworked the title for its second console debut.
