After an incredibly short glimpse of the game during last year’s Game Awards, Sega was back at today’s State of Play stream to fully unveil Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. While no release date was mentioned, today’s trailer showed off a couple of new mechanics and a longer post on the PlayStation blog details a whole host of features coming to the game.

Just like past Sonic Racing titles, players will be able to race on the land, in the sea, and the air. The rumored “travel rings” from the teaser do exactly what fans expected: they will transport users from one world to another seamlessly. As the blog mentions, the leader racer will be able to select a “CrossWorld” that racers will be transported to on the second lap, giving the fastest racer some kind of advantage when it comes to track layout.

Thalia Piedra, associate PR manager for Sega of America, wrote in the blog, “In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, not only did we want to introduce the innovative idea of racing through different worlds as you warp through the Travel Rings, but we also wanted anyone who had fun playing our previous Sonic Racing games to really enjoy this title, so we took a lot of elements from those past games and incorporated them.” That certainly sounds like fun.

Where will Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds be available to play?

A closed beta test for the game was teased for PS5 users, though it’s uncertain if this will be available on other platforms. When the game does release, it will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. I would put money on a Switch 2 version also being available.
