Early this morning, Nintendo released its Q4 2024 report, outlining sales throughout 2024. Now, diving into sales data might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for data nerds like me, it’s like Christmas came early! Not only has Nintendo officially sold over 150 million Nintendo Switch consoles, but we also get an updated look at the success of various first-party titles. Let’s break it down!

Switch hardware

As of December 31, 2024, the Nintendo Switch has sold 150.86 million units worldwide. Nintendo also provided a breakdown by model:

  • Original Switch – 96.18 million
  • Switch OLED – 29.41 million
  • Switch Lite – 25.27 million

It’s interesting to see the Switch OLED outperforming the cheaper Switch Lite, especially considering the Lite had a two-year headstart. The premium screen and design upgrades seem to have resonated with players!

Software

Nintendo also shared updates on software sales, and wow — these numbers are massive. Here are some of the top-selling titles:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 67.35 million
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 35.88 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 32.62 million
  • Super Mario Odyssey – 29.04 million
  • Pokémon Sword & Shield – 26.6 million
  • Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – 26.38 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 21.55 million

For games released in 2024, here’s how they performed:

  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – 6.17 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – 3.91 million
  • Mario & Luigi: Brothership – 1.84 million

One interesting aspect of Jamboree’s sales is that it’s currently outpacing all other Mario Party titles on the Switch — a fantastic milestone!

What’s next for Nintendo?

Nintendo briefly mentioned the Switch 2 in their report, but don’t get too excited just yet. The only real confirmation we got is that the Switch 2 will be launching in 2025. But with a potential reveal on the horizon, we’re likely just a couple of months away from a flood of news. Stay tuned!

However, we did get confirmation on some upcoming Switch software for 2025. Nintendo has confirmed that both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 are still on track for a 2025 release, though no specific launch dates have been announced.

As always, stay tuned to Nintendo Wire for more Switch 2 news as we get it!
