Once a hilarious meme that somehow took life 17 years later, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is now available for digital download on PC and Switch. A riff on Nintendo’s popular Animal Crossing series, Island Adventure sees players start a new life with their favorite Sanrio characters on an island where adventures happen. The game boasts over 80 hours of “heartfelt quests” and lets players not only interact with characters such as Kitty, Kuromi, and Cinnamoroll but renovate their houses for them. Butters is living his best life today.

On the eShop, the game can be purchased for $39.99 or as a “Deluxe Edition” for $59.99. What’s really surprising is that the game will be getting a physical edition, something we didn’t know about until today. Up for pre-order on Amazon, the boxed copy has a release date of March 25th, 2025, and will exclusively be the “Deluxe Edition,” which runs $59.99. That version specifically comes with items meant to boost your progress in the game, giving you access to 300 rewards upfront and a ton of crafting/friendship boosters right at the start.

While it’s not surprising that Animal Crossing imitators have started to crop up after the wild success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is shocking that Sanrio didn’t make a Hello Kitty version until now. The series is perfect for the concept not only because it’s family-friendly, but because the franchise has existed for over 50 years. With that kind of legacy, a fun, cute, cozy game like this would have been one of the first things I would have done.
