It’s been six years since developer Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the hotly anticipated sequel to its 2017 classic. Originally envisioned as a bit of DLC for the first game, the scope of the game had expanded so much that Team Cherry decided to make it a standalone title. Now, after years of silence, we finally have some kind of update on the progress of the game. It’s not the most informative update, however.

In response to a fan on Twitter asking about whether or not Silksong is still happening, Team Cherry’s head of marketing Matthew Griffin responded by saying, “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release. <3.” That doesn’t really explain what is going on or when Team Cherry expects the game to enter post-production, but at least we know it’s still being worked on. The sheer wait for Silksong might wind up making the final product disappointing, however.

While you wait for Silksong

In the meantime, if you’re craving some games similar to Hollow Knight, last year’s Nine Sols by developer Red Candle Games took a similar action-heavy approach to a Metroidvania and even aped Sekiro’s combat. Infused with Taoist philosophy and built off of Chinese mythology, it also had an interesting aesthetic and story to string the gameplay bits together. It’s available on every modern platform, so it could be just the thing you need until we hear more about Silksong.
