Yesterday’s reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 told us that Nintendo has a new console on the horizon. That’s not meant to be a punchline, either: the reveal only told us that a new console is happening. There was a glimpse of a new Mario Kart and astute viewers can glean some information about the updated Joy-Con, but otherwise, the trailer was a whole load of nothing. It’s not surprising, then, that this morning in Japan, Nintendo’s stock prices fell an estimated 5.9% following the reveal.

As reported by Bloomberg, Nintendo’s stock value fell the most it has in the past three months following the reveal of the Switch 2. Senior analyst Hideki Yasuda of Toyo Securities said, “The stock declined because the revealed Switch 2 was exactly in line with what’s been leaked online and lacked any surprises.” Yasuda believes the fall is a temporary setback, however, as more information will come in just a few months from Nintendo. Nintendo did end the reveal trailer with a promise of a Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, so there won’t be that much longer to wait to figure out just what makes the Switch 2 so special.

Switch 2 Nintendo Direct scheduled for early April 2025

Not only will the Nintendo Direct reveal more details and games, but it will kick off a string of in-person events that people can attend to try the Switch 2 for themselves. The US events will take place in New York City on April 4-6th, in Los Angeles on April 11-13, and in Dallas on April 25-27. With that momentum, Nintendo should be able to ride out any setback with stock prices that this reveal incurred.
