It feels like a Majora’s Mask kind of holiday season! A few days ago, we reported on the discovery of hidden N64 Microphone support in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Now, another feel-good story from the land of Termina has made its way to my desk, starring one of the greatest underdogs in video game history: Blue Dog!

N64 microphone support hiding in Zelda: Majora’s Mask for nearly 25 years

For those unfamiliar, Blue Dog is one of the racers you can choose at the Doggy Racetrack on Romani Ranch. While there are several competitors, Blue Dog is, without a doubt, the worst choice if your goal is to win. Not only is he the slowest dog, but his odds of victory are so abysmal that there hasn’t been a single recorded Blue Dog win online in nearly 25 years. Despite his shortcomings, Blue Dog has captured the hearts of the Majora’s Mask community, becoming a bit of a a canine folk hero.

But what if I told you that Blue Dog could win the race? Thanks to the incredible efforts of speedrunners Falkush and Vidya James, who tirelessly analyzed code, glitches, and even created a custom script to simulate dog races around the clock, Blue Dog finally had his moment of triumph.

Check out the video above for the full story on how it was done.
