Another week, another Nintendo Music update. After adding the glorious Wave Race 64 soundtrack to its service, Nintendo provided a much larger update last night with the addition of the entire 186-track OST for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Regarded as one of the best soundtracks in the entire series (which basically has incredible songs in every game), subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online can now stream this masterpiece wherever they go.

The majesty of Skyward Sword

What made Skyward Sword’s soundtrack so noteworthy back in 2011 was that it was the first OST in the series to be fully orchestrated. Nintendo had tinkered with the idea for 2006’s Twilight Princess, but the limitations of the GameCube’s discs meant compromises needed to be made. As such, only a couple of songs have any orchestration as most were a mixture of midis and pre-recorded segments. Skyward Sword was built specifically for the Wii, which allowed a full DVD’s worth of storage to be utilized.

While opinions on the game are still mixed (I’ve always felt it was a very solid action/adventure game), no one disagrees about the soundtrack. It’s an incredible listen and while there are obviously some tracks that won’t stand up without gameplay, most are fantastic.
