Exactly one year ago today, Analogue — a company known for creating beautiful (and expensive) recreations of classic gaming hardware like the Analogue Pocket and Super NT — teased something big for Nintendo 64 fans. At the time, not much was revealed beyond a teaser image and the promise of 100% FPGA compatibility and 4K resolution. But today, we finally have all the details we’ve been waiting for, as the Analogue 3D has been fully unveiled. Pre-orders open on October 21st, with the console priced at $249.99 and an optional Bluetooth controller, created by 8BitDo, available for an additional $39.99. The system will be available in both black and white, with support for Bluetooth and original Nintendo 64 controllers.

As with most Analogue products, demand is expected to be high, so if you’re planning to get one, be sure to check their store on October 21st at exactly 8:00 a.m. PT to secure your pre-order!

The Analogue 3D is everything you could hope it would be. It supports 100% of all Nintendo 64 games ever created, is region free, supports Bluetooth controllers, and has its own operating system for saving screenshots and save states. Also, keep in mind, this is not software emulation we’re talking about. The Analogue 3D is an FPGA device that actually emulates the Nintendo 64’s hardware, giving players an authentic play experience.

So… why is FPGA so desirable? Simply, FPGA uses something called an integrated circuit, that allows developers like Analogue to physically program the chip to emulate the circuitry of classic gaming consoles. That typically equals better performance, and compatibility for all of your classic games. As an Analogue Pocket owner myself, I can tell you that I have yet to find a single pixel or sound effect out of place in all of my favorite games, and for me, that’s worth the price of admission alone.
