The Pikmin franchise has always had a close link to the natural world. The atmosphere and intrigue of PNF-404 as well as the many plants and animals that call it home is what makes Pikmin unique. Just take a look at the various Piklopedias of the games and you’ll see the appreciation for nature from both the characters as well as how much detail is put into the ecology of it all. Given this inherent connection to nature, it comes as a pleasant surprise to hear that the Pikmin franchise is partnering with a real-life hub for wildlife: the San Diego Zoo.
From now, October 1st, until November 28th, those attending the San Diego Zoo will be able to find hidden Pikmin at the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp. This area is divided into four main sections with the goal being to connect people with all sorts of natural environments and species, which seems like the perfect place to include them. Pikmin games tend to feature very diverse areas with a wide variety of wildlife in each one, so the connection makes a lot of sense. As a nice bonus as well, children 11 years old and younger will gain free entry to the zoo all throughout October!Given how perfect this collaboration seems, we certainly hope that Pikmin will continue to work with other nature-oriented facilities in the future. If you’re in the area and have been considering a trip to the San Diego Zoo, keep an eye out for the Pikmin along the way!
Pikmin freebies
As another nice bonus, you can redeem Platinum Points at the My Nintendo website to get a special Pikmin wallpaper, which will be available until the 28th of November as well.
