Monolith Soft has officially turned 25 today, and to celebrate, Nintendo has posted a commemorative video featuring all of Monolith Soft’s projects from over the years. Set to “Future Awaits” from Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, the video features modern Monolith Soft hits like the Xenoblade Chronicles series (including Xenoblade Chronicles X!) but also features past work like Baten Kaitos, Xenosaga, and lesser-known titles like Disaster: Day of Crisis.
It’s an impressive body of work on display, and longtime Monolith Soft fans are sure to get a kick out of seeing all of their favorites in one video. Despite the variety of games shown in the video, there is even more Monolith Soft work out there that they don’t get enough credit for. Monolith Soft has been prolific behind the scenes at Nintendo for a long time now, putting in work on a number of first-party Nintendo titles that aren’t featured in the above video. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon 2 and 3, and even Animal Crossing: New Horizons all helped make the Switch the success it’s been known as since 2017. That’s not all either, Monolith Soft had their hand in other Nintendo titles prior to the Switch as well, with credits on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Pikmin 3 to name a few.
Monolith Soft is celebrating their 25th anniversary on their own as well, with a special website set up displaying a message from Monolith Soft’s Director, Hirohide Sugiura and offering several wallpapers featuring characters from across Monolith Soft’s history for download. The page itself is entirely in Japanese, but it’s easy enough to navigate.
Monolith Soft is a huge part of Nintendo history and gaming history as a whole, and it’s great to see them celebrating the fact that they’ve been able to continue on this long. There’s no word on what’s coming next from the studio, but I think that we can all rest assured that it will be grand. Here’s to 25 more years!
