Last year’s indie RPG hit Sea of Stars is about to receive a major update that, among some substantial game balance tweaks, will include local co-op support for up to three players. Dubbed the “Dawn of Equinox” update (which relates to the game’s plotline), you would think the addition of multiplayer would be the biggest change here. Thankfully, developer Sabotage Studio isn’t content with piecemeal add-ons.

As outlined on the studio’s official website, the update will be hitting on platforms on November 12, 2024, and will include the following tweaks, additions, and changes:

  • Local co-op support
  • Combat 2.0 (More below)
  • Revamped prologue with more combat
  • Bonus cinematic for the pivotal “Paths on Water” sequence
  • Speedrunner Mode relic to track time easier
  • Three difficulty options
  • Improved Parrot relic for finding collectibles and for the final chapter
  • Quebecois Localization support
  • General quality-of-life tweaks

Combat 2.0 is the largest change here and is more than just a slight expansion of the game’s battle mechanics. Here, an entirely new “Mystery Locks” system has been implemented alongside the game’s regular combat locks. With this, you’ll either need to guess how to break an enemy’s defenses or utilize the new “Reveal” ability to figure out what each foe is weak to. Combo points also remain after battles, allowing players to better experiment with the combat system and see how it affects each foe.

The difficulty options are also a welcomed addition, though Sea of Stars already kind of had this baked in. During the course of the game, you would discover some relics that would either dramatically decrease your damage output or would double the XP you received from battles. You even had things that would require perfect button presses to deal damage, etc, which was an organic way to shift difficulty in or against your favor. Now, you can start the campaign with pre-assigned relics that should grant players of all abilities a fair challenge.

Everything else about this update will be revealed in a live stream by Sabotage tomorrow at 2 pm EST on its Twitch channel.
