Yakuza is one of those series that I just accepted wouldn’t be making it onto the Switch. Sega’s history with the series was one of strong ties to the Playstation, followed by a more modern approach on Xbox with Game Pass for its seventh entry, Like a Dragon. That made the closing news of today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase all the more impactful when the Dragon of Dojima himself appeared on our screens.

Yakuza Kiwami, the full remake of the original Yakuza game, will finally herald the series’ debut on a Nintendo console! Players will step into the white suit of Kazuma Kiryu to experience the beginning of what’s become one of Sega’s most beloved brands. It’s perfect timing too, what with a live action series on the way to Prime Video.

For the uninitiated, the Yakuza series can be boiled down to three core things: rich storytelling rooted in Japanese organized crimes, exciting brawls that escalate quickly once you start DDTing poor goons into the pavement and smashing bicycles into their head (among many, many more possibilities), and some of the strangest and most entertaining side quests and minigames in gaming.

All of that will become much more known to Switch owners when Yakuza Kiwami arrives on October 24.
