Things have been awfully quiet on the Tales of front ever since the (non-Switch) release of Tales of Arise. Thankfully Bandai Namco had a surprise for us during today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, announcing the unexpected return of Tales of Graces.

The original release of Graces was back on the Wii in 2009, though that version never left Japan. Instead overseas fans had to wait for Tales of Graces f, an updated version on the PlayStation 3 back in 2012. It’s that touched up take on this friendship-filled entry that’s getting another chance to make its mark on players.

I’d have wagered Tales of Xillia and its sequel would be more likely to receive re-releases after the trends set by Symphonia and Vesperia, but here we are instead. Graces’ most notable feature would likely be its takes on the series’ trademark linear motion battle system, but I recall enjoying the interplay between its cast even if the overarching narrative came up short compared to the series’ highpoints.

That said, I’ll be keen to revisit Asbel and the rest of the party when Tales of Graces f Remastered arrives on January 17, 2025.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
