We’re a little over a month away from the release of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, so Nintendo is starting to release a series of trailers that detail what makes this newest 2D Zelda so special. Apart from being able to finally play as the titular princess, Echoes of Wisdom will be introducing new ways to traverse Hyrule that draw a ton of inspiration from Breath of the Wild.

I’m particularly in love with the cartoony horses, but the “Bind” mechanic seems like a massive game-changer. With this power, Zelda can bind herself to enemies or objects and manipulate them with her movements. There is even a “Reverse Bind” option that does the exact opposite, allow enemy movements to shift Zelda’s position. The trailer showcases a spider climbing up walls and trees while taking Zelda with it.

It’s also fun to see more of this particular map of Hyrule, which seems to be based on some of the lore from Skyward Sword. Much like Breath of the Wild, there is inspiration from all over the series and it’s awesome to see the return of River Zora from Link to the Past. Deku Scrubs, as well, are making their first appearance since The Minish Cap (though they technically were in Triforce Heroes).

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be hitting store shelves and the eShop on September 26, 2024.
