If you’ve been keeping up with Nintendo during the latter half of the Switch’s lifespan, you almost certainly know about Splatoon 3. While Splatoon 2 was a major focal point during the first few years of the console’s lifespan, Splatoon 3 took the reins as soon as it came out. While it may feel like it hasn’t been out for that long, the game is already approaching two years old. Given the nature of this milestone, a celebratory Splatfest called the Grand Festival has been announced for the week after the anniversary in September.

As with all Splatfests in Splatoon 3, the Grand Festival features three teams for players to join for the event. However, the theme this time around breaks new ground by featuring the three idol groups from each game. The Squid Sisters return to represent Team Past, Off the Hook appear as Team Present, and Deep Cut are Team Future. All three of the groups will appear together in-game for the first time for the event at the train station near the Eiffel Tower ruins, the same area as from the cutscene at the beginning of Splatoon 3.

The date of the event, as mentioned earlier, is the week following the two-year anniversary of Splatoon 3’s release, starting on September 12th at 5 pm PT and running until September 15th at 5 pm PT. An assortment of merchandise for the Splatfest is coming as well, with three T-shirt designs available for pre-order now and festival wristbands on the way at a later date via Platinum Points. In addition, four new amiibo are set to release a week before the Grand Festival, which you can read more about here!

Nintendo announces a pair of brand-new Splatoon amiibo 2-packs! Coming in September

It’s very clear that this Splatfest is set up to be a massive celebration of the series, possibly being the largest in-game event the franchise has ever had. While it isn’t explicitly stated to be the final Splatfest of Splatoon 3, many fans are expecting it to be. After all, Splatoon 2 only ran for two years, so this may be the last of the new content for Splatoon 3. Regardless of whether it is or not, the Grand Festival is set up to be the biggest event in Splatoon 3’s history, so be sure not to miss out!
