After three years of radio silence, Dotemu is finally back with some new information about Metal Slug Tactics. One of the highlights from E3 2021, Tactics is a reimagining of the Metal Slug series from its run-and-gun roots to turn-based strategy. What was expected to launch in 2022 had been quietly delayed and will now be rolling out for duty in Fall 2024. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch when it does release.
A brief new trailer doesn’t reveal much about the game we didn’t already know, but the visual design is certainly far more polished than three years ago. Things are crisp and smooth, and the new UI looks much better designed to give players the information they will need during battle. All of the flourishes SNK gave the Metal Slug sprites are present and accounted for and I’m in love with the POWs still saluting when you save them. Even if this is a turn-based game, it looks exactly like Metal Slug.
