In a bit of a bummer update this morning, publisher Bandai Namco and developer Supermassive Games announced that the upcoming Little Nightmares 3 will be delayed into 2025. The obvious reason for this push into next year is that the team wants as much time as possible to ensure the quality of this sequel matches fan expectations. Since Supermassive is taking over from original developer Tarsier Studios, it doesn’t want to disappoint longtime fans who might be skeptical of the team change.

“As much as we can’t wait for you to return to the Nowhere, we also want to make sure we give the game the card and love it deserves,” reads the post on Twitter. “Quality is a top priority for us, and we know you feel the same way.” The message does state that more information on Little Nightmares 3 will be shown later this summer, so fans won’t have to wait too long before getting another glimpse of this title.

While Supermassive has a history with horror, its past games have mostly been cinematic experiences with limited gameplay. Fans love Until Dawn (and new footage of its remake was shown just yesterday), but that type of interactive drama isn’t anywhere close to what Little Nightmares was like. At the same time, the studio is very talented and knows how to craft an engaging experience, so I don’t believe it will drop the ball here. The delay might be unfortunate for fans, but it should result in a better game when Little Nightmares 3 does release.
