It’s looking like Nintendo is going to be skipping one of the world’s largest gaming conventions this year, as news broke this morning that Nintendo has decided against participating in Gamescom in Cologne in 2024 after “careful consideration.”

Last year, there were several reports and rumors that Nintendo was showing off the Switch’s successor at Gamescom behind closed doors, demonstrating a build of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that had zero load times and was running at 4K. It’s possible that these leaks led to Nintendo not wanting to return to the expo this year, though it could also just be that Nintendo simply doesn’t have much to show or announce in this quiet period before the Switch’s successor is finally revealed.

Gamescom 2024 will be held in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany from August 21st to August 25th, 2024, so expect some news from across the games industry to come out of that week, just not anything huge from the Big N.
