Initially announced all the way back in August of 2019, the Epic Universe theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort is still in development. The theme of the park is going to be various stories and universes from other intellectual properties such as Illumination, DreamWorks, and Nintendo. The worlds of Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong have already been officially revealed to be represented, but thanks to a now-deleted Instagram video, there may be reason to believe that The Legend of Zelda may also feature at the park.
Where does the rumor about Zelda at Universal come from?
The speculation comes from a video posted to Instagram showcasing the ongoing construction of the theme park. At just over a minute in, Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma can seemingly be seen in the background wearing construction attire. Given that Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong are known to feature at the park, it makes complete sense for Miyamoto to be present. However, Aonuma, the producer of The Legend of Zelda series, seemingly had no reason to be there, unless the Zelda universe was also going to be represented at the park.
In an Instagram video for Universal Studios Orlando Epic Universe, Aonuma and Miyamoto can be spotted in construction gear. Mario and DK have been confirmed for the park, but does Aonuma’s presence hint at Zelda?

The original video has since been deleted, which adds more speculation to the whole situation. Had it been left up, one could argue that perhaps Aonuma’s cameo was merely an easter egg for keen-eyed Nintendo fans. However, the fact that it was taken down implies that the contents of the video were not meant to be known at this moment, which lends some credibility to the theory. As of right now though, nothing is officially confirmed. While the idea does seem very plausible, we won’t know for certain until an official announcement from either Nintendo or Universal Studios themselves.
