Xbox Game Studios may be gearing up to bring more of its first-party titles to competing platforms like Nintendo Switch.
Reports and rumors have circled over the past few days from various sources, including games journalist Jeff Grubb and podcaster Nate the Hate.
Is Sea of Thieves coming to Switch?
According to Jeff Grubb, a video content producer for Giant Bomb, Sea of Thieves might be ported to the Switch.
“Sea of Thieves, right? I’ll say I’ve heard that is one that might be coming to other platforms,” Grubb said on the January 8th, 2024 episode of his podcast Game Mess Morning. “When I first started hearing these rumors, I was like, ‘Oh, this is probably about Sea of Thieves because I’ve heard that could come to Switch and PlayStation.’ And maybe that might be the kind of thing where it’s like, actually all of this stuff is happening, and Microsoft is kind of trying to, like, rejigger its strategy.”
Sea of Thieves, a pirate-themed action-adventure game from Rare, was originally published in 2018 as an Xbox and PC exclusive.
Is Hi-Fi Rush coming to Switch?
A mystery second game may also be coming to the Switch, according to podcaster Nate the Hate.
“The title I am referring to was met with high critical acclaim, fans loved it, it was in the Game of the Year conversation the year it released…” Nate the Hate said on the January 5th, 2024 episode of the Nate the Hate Podcast. “…When the announcement comes, I think it’s going to be met with a lot of excitement because this is a quality game.”
Nate the Hate, known as user NateDrake on the gaming forum ResetEra, previously hinted at an F-Zero game coming in 2023, shared accurate information on the developer working on the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, revealed that Nintendo 64, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games would be coming to Nintendo Switch Online, and has disclosed the dates of several Nintendo Directs before their official announcements.
User SneakersSO, a reportedly vetted “insider” on video game forum NeoGAF, added to Nate the Hate’s claim by outright stating “[Hi-Fi Rush] is one of the games being ported, but [it’s] not the only one.”
The user adds that last year’s Starfield will also be ported to Xbox’s competing platforms.
“There are more. In time, the norm will be to have these games release day 1 on all platforms,” they write.
