In a surprise new update for Super Mario Run, Nintendo has added the Wonder Flower from this year’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder as part of a limited-time event in the “Toad Rally” game mode. For those who may have forgotten (Run is now seven years old!), “Toad Rally” is an asynchronous multiplayer mode where players race through a random selection of levels to see how many Toads they can collect before reaching the goal. With this new update, you can now experience a little bit of Wonder in each of your runs.
In a video on the Nintendo Mobile YouTube account, we get a small glimpse of what the Wonder Flower does in Run. While it obviously cannot change how the level is played or viewed, it does turn every enemy into coins for you to collect. Weirdly, it reminds me of New Super Mario Bros. 2, just without the gimmick of a golden flower.
