A couple of weeks ago we saw the official announcement of a movie based on The Legend of Zelda, though some fans were quickly disappointed to learn it would be a live-action adaptation. For many the ideal Zelda movie would be animated, with many even citing Studio Ghibli as a great choice. After all, Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild both were clearly inspired by the likes of Princess Mononoke.

Thankfully a fan has stepped in, almost surely coincidentally, to answer those wishes with an animated short. RwanLink used Unreal Engine 5 to craft the video below which is mostly based on Ocarina of Time but familiar faces from the entire franchise make appearances. The latter portion of the video, meanwhile, gives us a look at what a game with the same style could look like.

Give it a watch:

Sadly we’ll just have to keep on relying on fan works until Nintendo and Ghibli do an official team-up, if ever. If the studio was willing to work with Star Wars for a Grogu short, though, maybe it’s not an absolute pipedream?

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
