In many ways Hideki Kamiya and PlatinumGames are inseparable. While plenty of other developers have contributed to the studio’s output over the years (Kamiya wasn’t involved in Astral Chain at all outside of a supervising role, for example), the vice-president and his very unique presence on social media have led to him becoming a face for the company in the eyes of many.

Now the era is coming to a close, though, with an official PlatinumGames social media post confirming that Kamiya will be stepping down from the company on October 12th, 2023.

In both the official PlatinumGames post and Kamiya’s own social media response we don’t get any specific reasons as to why he is leaving beyond his “own beliefs”, though it’s made clear that he’ll stay in the gaming industry as a creative going forward.

We’ll just have to wait and see what this means for the IP Kamiya directed at Platinum, namely Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, as well as the enigmatic Project G.G.
