Today’s Nintendo Direct had plenty of Mario announcements but right at the top of the show was a remake of the classic Game Boy Advance puzzle platformer, Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

Functionally a follow-up to the very underappreciated Donkey Kong ’94 for the Game Boy, Mario vs. Donkey Kong saw the big ape get infatuated by a bunch of small Mario toys and wreak havoc. The original’s pre-rendered sprites definitely show their age nowadays, so this new remake was well-deserved, but it’s not just the visuals that got an update as you can now play the game co-op with another player taking control of a Toad.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
