Since its debut in September 2019, Mario Kart Tour has been a mobile gaming favorite, offering players fast-paced races and a massive roster of characters from the beloved Super Mario universe (significantly more than even Mario Kart 8 offered). While it wasn’t always smooth sailing, with some fans, myself included, frustrated by the money-driven gacha mechanics, there’s no denying that MKT boasted an extensive amount of content for players to dive into. However, as the old saying goes, all good things must eventually come to an end, and Mario Kart Tour is no exception. Nintendo has officially announced, in a recent statement posted on the MKT app, that new content distribution will cease as of October 4th:
The reasons behind this sunset remain unclear at the moment, however, I’ve noticed some online speculation suggesting that it might be a hint at the development of Mario Kart 9. While there’s really no way to tell for sure, we can always hope, right? As we eagerly await the possible debut of Mario Kart 9, there’s something to look forward to in the meantime: the final event in Mario Kart Tour, the Anniversary Tour, which kicks off on September 20th!
