Plenty of cartoons from the ’90s have the aesthetic of the decade, but I’d argue few encapsulate it quite like Nickelodeon’s Rugrats. Fittingly, the show is getting an all-new game that’s set to ape some of its 8-bit contemporaries.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland will be a very meta adventure where the babies (Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil) see a commercial for a new Reptar game and start pretending they’re in their own. Gameplay looks to take a lot of cues from retro classics, especially Super Mario Bros. 2, but if you’re not a fan of the retro vibe you can swap to a “HD mode” where everything is crisp and hand-drawn.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
