While the series may not be as well-known as the likes of Monkey Island or King’s Quest, the Broken Sword series of point-and-click adventures have had a devoted fanbase for years, and they were in for a treat yesterday.

Developer Revolution Software has confirmed two new games featuring George Stobbart and Nico Collard. The first of these is a full remaster of the original game, Shadow of the Templars, which first released way back in 1996. This “Reforged” edition redraws the backgrounds in 4K for systems that support that resolution, re-animates the sprites, and offers a variety of other enhancements.

The second game announced is an all-new entry subtitled Parzival’s Stone, the first since 2013’s The Serpent’s Curse. It plans to combine hand-drawn backgrounds with 3D geometry for a more cinematic feel.

You can catch a glimpse at both new projects in the trailer below:

Broken Sword: Parzival’s Stone is set to launch after Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged which itself will arrive in early 2024. Specific console platforms have yet to be announced, but Revolution’s previous game, Beyond a Steel Sky, did eventually hit Switch.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
