The plumbers have done it – according to the latest figures, the Super Mario Bros. Movie achieved a global box office gross of $1.288 billion dollars, which climbs past Disney’s titanic smash hit Frozen ($1.284 bil) to become the second highest grossing animated film of all-time, only behind Frozen 2 ($1.45 bil)… and The Lion King (2019), if you consider that an animated movie.

It’s a pretty high jump for Mario to clear, especially since his film has been out for two months now, but we can’t discount any possibility. Even if this ends up being the resting place for Illumination’s smash hit, it’s still a wild success. And hey, if you do end up missing it in theaters, the movie is out now on select digital and streaming services.
