The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues breaking record after record like they’re brick blocks, now at $1.249 billion globally – surpassing The Incredibles 2’s $1.24 billion to become the fourth highest grossing animated movie of all-time. Only three Disney titans stand in the way of the Mario Bros. achieving total global victory. The current Top Ten Highest Grossing Animated Films are:

  1. The Lion King (2019) — $1.66 billion
  2. Frozen 2 — $1.45 billion
  3. Frozen — $1.28 billion
  4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie — $1.249 billion
  5. Incredibles 2 — $1.24 billion
  6. Minions — $1.16 billion
  7. Toy Story 4 — $1.073 billion
  8. Toy Story 3 — $1.067 billion
  9. Despicable Me 3 — $1.034 billion
  10. Finding Dory — $1.029 billion

Bronze medalist Frozen is well within striking distance, though it’s a notably higher climb to surpass Frozen 2 and The Lion King. Still, as the highest grossing non-Disney animated film ever, to call the movie anything but a success would be highly erroneous. It’s only a matter of time until we see a followup.
