It’s time for everybody’s favorite kind of content: hot, steamy financial reports! 2022 is in the rearview mirror, and in terms of scintillating spicy gaming sales metrics it was a mild decline, with a 6% fall in game sales and a much more hefty notable 29% decline in console sales from 2021. Reasons for this include stock shortages and a fall in the popularity in older titles. The “end” of the pandemic was also likely a factor in dampening sales.
While game sales fell 6%, there was a 20% increase in new game sales, showing that the issue is not people not wanting video games but rather losing ground for older titles. While the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console, sales were down roughly 28% for the platform and it barely beat out its competitors for the crown.
