A few months back, shortly before the release of the End of YoRHa it was revealed that NieR Automata would be getting an anime adaptation in 2023. Diverging from the plot of the game in some significant ways, the anime has its first full trailer and an upcoming release date: January 7th, 2023.

The trailer focuses on what would be the opening hour or so of the game – androids 2B and 9S meeting on a mission to eliminate a vast quantity of machines. Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae return to provide the duo’s Japanese voices, though we have no idea if Kira Buckland and Kyle McCarley will come back to voice them in the English dub. (The dub is being handled by Crunchyroll, whom McCarley recently had an extremely public and explosive dispute with, so it seems unlikely.)
Speaking of Crunchyroll, that’s where you can start watching the anime after it debuts next week. And you can of course purchase NieR Automata on Nintendo Switch now. I think it’s pretty alright.
