After Ash finally became world champion, effectively becoming The Very Best, Like No One Ever Was, many Pokémon anime fans were wondering what was next for the eternally 10 year old hero?

It turns out an emotional farewell is in store as the Pokémon Company has confirmed that Ash and Pikachu will be leaving the anime before a new series begins in April 2023.

It’s such a big deal that an English-language trailer has been released, even though Ash’s final episodes won’t air in the west for a while. In the teaser we can see Misty, Brock, and plenty of Pokémon from previous adventures.

As for those new protagonists, we’ll be following Liko and Roy “as they set off on action-packed adventures across the Pokémon world“. They’ll seemingly be joined by the three Paldean starters – Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

Of course there’s every chance Ash will still have a role in the series – he and especially Pikachu are inseparable from the brand at this point – but it’s an exciting time to be a Pokémon fan!
