It’s time again for The Game Awards, where fans and industry members come together to celebrate the last year of releases and herald what’s to come. Nintendo’s received quite a few nominations across the categories, though a look at Best Family Game shows them effectively omnipresent.

Beating out Splatoon 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga) was none other than a tough pink puffball with a mouthful of history. Kirby and the Forgotten Land represented the first full 3D adventure for the series, as well as the title representing its 30th Anniversary — and now it represents the Best Family Game of 2022.

Doug Bowser was on hand to accept the award, noting it was finally time Kirby got one of his own. I certainly share that sentiment and would welcome any potential Kirby sweep, but if you want something a little more focused you can check out our own Forgotten Land review.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
