He’s big, he’s pink, and he’s no longer confined to the digital dimension — Kirby is arriving in arcades courtesy of Bandai Namco, titled Kirby’s Gourmet Race (despite not having much resemblance to the SNES Kirby Super Star minigame that originated the phrase).

The game is simple: you work a pump to hurl plastic balls into his wide, vacuuming mouth. You ever play Hungry Hungry Hippos? It’s a little like that, except you’re launching the balls in instead of snatching them for yourself. (A friend who works at an arcade informs me it’s very similar to a game called “Dog Pounder.”) Some of the balls are Maxim Tomatoes, which you can get in for extra points. It looks like a lot of fun!

You can check out where the game is available (in Japanese) at Bandai Namco’s page. We’ll have to see if any units make their way outside of the country, we can only hope for now.
