Parting is such sweet sorrow…
Though Super Smash Bros. Ultimate wrapped development, DLC, and events a while back there was still one regular source of content for the game. Director Masahiro Sakurai’s Twitter feed has shared screenshots of the game daily for years now, ranging from the unabashedly cool to deep cuttingly referential, to subtle details and really anything the creator felt like.
Previously he made an announcement that he was going from daily to five days a week, but it looks like even with that the well is finally running dry. Per one of his more recent tweets, he only has enough screenshots left that the ritual will end “sometime in August”.
Posting daily Smash Ultimate screens has been part of my workday ritual for a while now…but it's looking like I'll run out sometime in August.
I even took around 200 new ones as we were wrapping up development, so it's hard to believe they're already gone. Time sure does fly! pic.twitter.com/MbIGtcRJxI

200 of these were taken as development was wrapping, but it sounds like no efforts were made to go in and keep things going. And that’s fine, you know? Just like the roster, all good things must come to an end eventually. Here’s hoping a Sakurai gets a level of catharsis from wrapping up this endeavor as well, and fans can look forward to scrolling through the full collection of these screenshots once they wrap.
