Want to play Fire Emblem Fates? I mean, do you really wanna play Fire Emblem Fates? Awakening is right there, just saying. But maybe you already have it. Or you just wanna see what Fates is like. I get it, I once lived in blissful ignorance too (and it is a very fun game if you don’t read a single word of plot). Well, Nintendo itself appears keen to get rid of the game sooner than all others, because while most 3DS and Wii U eShop games are going to become unavailable for purchase on March 27th, 2023, Fates sales will end a month earlier on February 28th, 2023, according to Nintendo UK.

Now, the game’s DLC will be on sale until the general eShop closure, making Nintendo’s decision kind of considerate in a backwards sort of way. It gives players the time to play through the game and decide if they want to get one or both of the other routes as a DLC, which they wouldn’t be able to do if they got Fates right as the eShop closed in general. Thus it gives prospective fans a way to plan out their purchases without dropping the ball.

Of course, the actually considerate thing to do would be to not close the eShop in general, thus keeping the game up for any curious enough to play it. I may have been cheeky at the start of the piece, but it outright sucks that any game, regardless of quality, can be delisted and effectively shoved into the dustbin of gaming history (outside of the seven seas, at least). While it’s unlikely Nintendo will change course at this point, we should still acknowledge that what they’re doing is anywhere from disappointing to cruel, depending on how strongly you want to put it.

Anyway, there are about seven months left before Fates gets delisted, and eight before the 3DS and Wii U eShop games become unpurchasable in general. Good luck acquiring whatever games you can!
