We’re about three months away from the release of Splatoon 3. Nintendo and the Squid Research Lab have been teasing weapons, clothing, and more over the last few weeks and will continue to do so this summer. Today’s announcement isn’t about a particular weapon line or Splatoon’s fresh fashion – instead, we get to see a new map!
Squid Research Lab reporting from Undertow Spillway, a former flood bypass that’s now used for Turf War battles! This abandoned facility is another shining example of upcycling, as the varied terrain lends itself to strategic and hard-fought skirmishes among Splatsville locals. pic.twitter.com/YmFO8fTcPX

The 21-second clip gives up a glimpse of Undertow Spillway. Modified for Turf War (and possibly Ranked mode) battles, there are plenty of ramps to cover in ink and swim across. And, even better, some Jellies have made it down here to view matches!
While the Squid Research Lab mentions Undertow Spillway as a former flood bypass, fingers crossed that stays true. I’d hate to see flood water suddenly appear on the map with 30 seconds to go… After all, Inklings and Octolings in water aren’t really a good combo.
For added lore, the Nintendo UK’s tweet mentions that the map is “located deep under Splatsville.” What’s Splatsville? That is Splatoon 3’s main hub that’s been shown off in a variety of trailers. So while you’re checking into the game, ordering/purchasing gear, and more, there might actually be battles happening down below! Provided that the map is in the rotation block.
You can look forward to Turf War matches in Undertow Spillway later this year when Splatoon 3 releases on Friday, September 9th, 2022.
