So a new Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers movie came out recently, for those unaware. This reboot/sequel to the ’90s cartoon styles itself after Who Framed Roger Rabbit , featuring a mix of animation styles with live action, a neo-noir mystery, and cameos from a number of extant animation properties. Rather than cute scenes of Daffy and Donald having a piano face-off, however, this new movie opts for the bawdy and decrepit side of showbiz, as can be seen in one of its standout characters: Ugly Sonic.

Voiced by Tim Robinson, the character (who I personally think should have been called “Bojack Hedgehogman”) is based on the Sonic from his initial and infamous movie trailer, now a vaguely boozy wash-up bragging about a new FBI show while Dale (and later Chip) overly fixate on his disturbingly human teeth. Humor is obviously in the eye of the beholder, but to me it mostly feels like a retread of jokes the internet made years ago. Kids might get a kick out of it, though.

You can watch the movie yourself on Disney+ now, if you so choose. You can also watch the original Who Framed Roger Rabbit, if you’re in the mood for something more classical. Hey, I mean, it’s got Mario (Bob Hoskins) in it.
