It’s time for everybody’s favorite hot-button topic — sales reports! Specifically in Japan, where the sales chart was topped by Nintendo Switch Sports, selling over 190,000 copies on its debut. While nearly a 50% decrease from Wii Sports Resort’s first week sales (354,000), it’s still a solid performer that we can expect to do well going forward.
Japan Famitsu – “Nintendo Switch Sports” took the top spot with 190,000 units sold, just short of the 354,000 first-week sales of “Wii Sports Resort”, which was released in June 2009. Switch in 5yrs has sold 24.6m and passing 3DS which took 10yrs to hit the same number,DS 32.86m

In what is more milestone news, the Switch surpassed the 3DS lifetime sales of 24.6 million in the region, achieving the honor in only five years while it took the 3DS a whole decade. The Switch surpassed the 3DS on a worldwide scale a while back (it’s at over 103 million while the 3DS family topped off at around 76 million), but it still has a ways to go to surpass the original DS on both fronts (32.86million domestically, 154 million worldwide). It’ll take some effort to do so, but the Switch has been a major success from the onset, so anything is possible.
That’s all for this bold and brave sales reporting. It’s a thankless task, but an important one… to someone, I assume.
