The act of catching creatures is giving way to the act of caring for them — Niantic has revealed its next AR game offering, titled Peridot, a virtual pet game where you can walk around the real world and interact with your pet, like a fusion between Pokémon GO and Digimon/Tamagotchi.

You can care for your pet (a titular Peridot) by taking them on walks, uncovering treasure, playing with them, breeding them, discovering new ones, taking photos, and more. The creatures’ designs are a bit reminiscent of Spore, with fluid, blobbish, squishy designs.
Pre-registration is already open, and the game is soft launching with a beta as the devs iron out kinks. Whether or not this is the next smash hit remains to be seen, but hey, people love Pokémon GO and they love Tamagotchis, so por que no los dos?
