Now for news that could be delivered by a man in a little top hat and mustache named, I don’t know, Windsor Duke Kensington of Chives — a delightful Pokémon-themed routine has just taken place at Crufts, the biggest and most illustrious dog show in all the world. It’s enough to make us smirk mirthfully at our copies of The Times.

The routine in question was performed by a chihuahua named Sophie and her trainer Jenny, who donned the familiar blue jacket, green gloves, and red hat of Ash Ketchum as they took part in the Freestyle Heelwork to Music competition last week. Besides a lot of impressively fancy footwork, they also defeated a Charizard and pried for a Bulbasaur in the bushes. (If you want to jump right to the Pokémon performance, the segment begins at 16:29.)

Unfortunately, Sophie and Jenny’s praiseworthy score of 22.63 wasn’t enough to win, causing our monocles to pop in protest. I do have to give them much credit for making me understand the appeal of dog shows far more than just about anything else I can think of. Hats off to them!
