The race to first place has finally concluded. Since its launch in early 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been pacing through market numbers with a blue shell clutched in its hands eyeing the top spot. According to Nintendo’s latest financial data, the Nintendo Switch’s most popular title has now outsold Mario Kart Wii by over a million units — which also means it is officially the best-selling racing game of all time.

Mario Kart Wii ended its store shelf lifespan with an incredible total of 37.38 million units sold placing it high above the sales figures of its predecessor Mario Kart DS along with the highest selling entries of both Gran Turismo and Need for Speed series. Currently, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is standing at 38.74 million units.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has continued to sell well over a million copies each financial quarter since its launch and the title does not seem to be pulling its break soon. When more news regarding Mario Kart 8 and Nintendo’s recent financials make the rounds, we will be sure to let you all know.
