Countless conventions over the past couple years have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Penny Arcade Expo is no different — but while events like PAX West in Seattle are starting to reappear, one looks to be gone for now, as PAX revealed that its PAX South event in San Antonio has “come to an end for the foreseeable future.”

While the stated reasons of stagnant attendance and general pandemic complications are undoubtedly true, it’s also worth noting that Texas (in comparison to other states where PAX is held) is being particularly lax with COVID regulations, and the potential health risk of holding a convention there is higher than elsewhere. Regardless, it’s extremely sad news, especially since it’s unlikely for many South attendees to make it out of state to a different con. We hope that at some point in the future the convention can come back.
