Part of Niantic’s task force update in September included a variety of things for Pokémon GO and the community. We saw a number of changes reverted in-game as well as outlined promises of open communication between players and Pokémon GO developers. One of these promises was a Developer Diary video series that would be posted every other month on the official Pokémon GO YouTube account. The first video in this series has been posted and it’s all about the popular monthly event in Pokémon GO – Community Day.

Hosted by Michael Steranka, Director of Global Product Marketing for Pokémon GO, he discusses how Community Day came to be and where it’s heading.

Steranka answers a variety of questions during the video – “Why doesn’t Community Day last the whole day?”, “How do Community Day Pokémon and moves get picked?”, “What’s your favorite Community Day story?”, and “What’s next for Community Day?” – as well as sharing some fun facts about the event. With 46 Community Day events held so far, Trainers have caught over 30.7 billion featured Pokémon on Community Day since 2018. It makes you wonder how many of those billion are shiny.

As for the future of Community Day, we now know the dates for November and December. Save the day for some Pokémon GO hunting on:

  • Sunday, November 21st, 2021
  • Saturday, December 18th, 2021 and Sunday, December 19th, 2021

Plus, for November 2021’s Community Day, we were given a hint. It’ll feature a Pokémon that hails from the Sinnoh region and is an Electric-type. Oddly enough, this hint limits our guesses to five Pokémon – Shinx (evolves into Luxio and Luxray), Pachirisu, Rotom, Magnezone, and Electivire. Given that Pokémon selected for Community Day tend to evolve, we can rule out Pachirisu and Rotom. Electivire previously appeared in November 2020’s Community Day (as Electabuzz), and while Magnezone is a Pokémon that was introduced in the Sinnoh region games, its base form is Magnemite, a Kanto region Pokémon.

Therefore, it’s highly likely that Shinx will be November 2021’s Community Day Pokémon. Luckily, the official announcement will be made soon according to Steranka.

In addition to the dates and the hint, Community Day dates will be announced in advance in 2022. Dates will be announced at the start of each new Season in Pokémon GO in three-month chunks.

Niantic’s Developer Diary for Pokémon GO returns in December, so if you enjoyed the first video, lookout for the next in two months!
