Patents have always been an interesting source of Nintendo leaks, even if on occasion they can be frustratingly vague. That’s the case with this latest filing with the FCC, discovered by SamusHunter2 on Twitter, for a device with the designation HAC-043.
Unfortunately at the moment all we know is that it’s a controller – the confidential photos of the device are hidden until March 16th, 2022, though it’s probable we’ll see an announcement before then.
It’s worth noting that HAC-042 was the designation for the SNES Switch controller, while HAC-033 was the NES controller. As “HAC” is a generalized term for all first part Switch peripherals, it’s impossible to say for certain if this new device will similarly tie into a new Nintendo Switch Online service or be something new entirely.
We’ll be sure to bring you the announcement if and when it happens.
